LoRes Weathered P47c Thunderbolt "4th.FG,335th.FS." for Emil's ETO 9th.USAAF.& 2nd.TAF Campaign

This Weathered P47c (circa: May 1943) skin is based on an aircraft of the 335th.Fighter Squadron, 4th.Fighter Group of the 8th.USAAF stationed at Debden, England engaged in the Allies Battle for Europe. One of the most successful Fighter Groups in the ETO with a total of 1000+ German fighters to it's credit.

This skinning project's objective was the depict a 'Generic' Thunderbolt fighter of the 4th.FG. which was the oldest Fighter Group in the ETO. It became operational September 1942 when three RAF American Volunteer Squadrons 71st, 121st. & 133rd. officially transferred to the USAAF. The Olive Drab paint scheme with the 12" white band applied to the engine cowl, tail horizontal and vertical stablizers was directed by the 8th.USAAF Command for all units in the ETO during '42/43. The National Insignia with the Yellow outline, first appeared on the Eagle's Spitfires, was also applied to their new mounts when they converted over to the Republic P47c in January '43.
I used a variety of rendering technics to give this aircraft it's operational weathering look.
This skin is offered without any particular 335th.FS. pilot's nickname so that the in-game squadron will have a more harmonious appearance. Any user can add a pilot's nickname to their download if they wish.....

The aircraft's colour scheme and Squadron markings where derived from a coloured aircraft profile plate found in the 1998 Osprey Aircraft of The Aces #24 Publication "P-47 Thunderbolt Aces of the Eighth Air Force" series by Jerry Scutts. The colours are as accurate as possible with the use of standard EAW Palette. Further reference material came from a 1998 Squadron/Signals Publication "Thunderbolt-The Republic P-47 Thunderbolt in the European Theatre" by Ernest R.McDowell....

The original 'P47c OD Base Skin' was the creation of Fabio Melee. Included with this is Migge's excellent 'P47C Virtual Cockpit' and the P47c Wing View is from Col.Gibbon because IMHO their work is first rate.... USAAF Mark8 Gunsight by PapaRomeo for period authenticity...

Special thanks to Alessandro Borges for his excellent EAW Batch File Converter V1.5 Utility...

The download includes all *.tpc, *.3dz and *.pcx files. The latter begin included so you can review how the graphic weathering techniques were done....
To install simple copy all the *.tpc and *.3dz files into your EAW main directory or as required by 'Stab' or 'Skins & More'....

Enjoy and watch your six .... Skylark
